The New York Mutuals base ball team was one of only three teams to have played in all five seasons of the National Association's existence (1871–75). In 1873, the team finished the season in fourth place with 29 wins and 24 losses, eleven games behind pennant-winning Boston Red Stockings. They won 22 out of 31 home games, played at Union Grounds in Brooklyn, and 7 of 22 away from home. The team batting average was .281, which is the fifth-best in the NA. They led the league in fewest strikeouts with 22 and fewest opponent runs.
