In their sixth season under head coach Woody Hayes, the Buckeyes compiled a 6–3 record, tied for fourth place in the Big Ten, and outscored opponents by a total of 160 to 81. They were ranked as high as No. 4 during the season, but they lost the final two games of the season against No. 7 Iowa and No. 9 Michigan.
