The inaugural race in the Talladega 500 series was held on September 14, 1969, at Alabama International Motor Speedway in Talladega, Alabama, USA. The race is noted for the unusual series of events leading up to and during it, seeing most Grand National Series drivers pulling out amidst a boycott of the event over safety concerns and a scoring error in its finish creating a disputed victory for Richard Brickhouse. As a result, the race has been remarked as the worst in NASCAR's history.
