The Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church of 2009 was the sixth Local Council in the second patriarchal period of the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, held from January 27 to 28, 2009, in the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior. It was the first Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church after the Local Council of 1990. Metropolitan Kirill (Gundyaev) of Smolensk and Kaliningrad was elected as the 16th Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus'.
