2026 Adamuz rail disaster

On 18 January 2026, a high-speed passenger train derailed in the municipality of Adamuz, in the province of Córdoba, Spain. The derailment occurred on a straight section of the track that was last refurbished in May 2025. A second train crashed into it and was also derailed. The incident killed 46 people and injured 292 others, including 15 in critical condition. The crash was Spain's worst railway disaster since the Santiago de Compostela derailment in 2013, and the fourth deadliest railway accident ever recorded in the country.
