It is part of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC), the regiment is attached to the 9th Brigade, and currently operates Hawkei Protected Mobility Vehicle - Light (PMV-L) and G-wagon surveillance and reconnaissance vehicles (SRV). 3rd/9th Light Horse was put under direct command of 1st Armoured Regiment on 1 November 2022.
