He is the managing director of Thomson Press (India) Limited and the chairman and managing director of TV Today. He is a recipient of the Padma Bhushan award. He was also the editor-in-chief of Reader's Digest India. In October 2017, he passed control of the India Today Group to his daughter, Kalli Purie.
