Charles Julius Beerstecher was a German American lawyer, politician and socialist who served as a delegate to California's Second Constitutional Convention from 1878 to 1879, as a member of the California Railroad Commission from 1880 to 1883, and as town attorney of St. Helena from 1894 to 1896. Beerstecher was heading the German language section of the Workingmen's Party of the United States in San Francisco when, in 1877, he and "practically all members" of the organization abandoned it for the anti-Chinese Workingmen's Party of California.
