Consumer Protections for Artificial Intelligence, also known as the Colorado AI Act (CAIA), is a Colorado state law that regulates the development and deployment of high-risk artificial intelligence (AI) systems. The CAIA places obligations on deployers and developers of high-risk AI systems to protect Colorado residents from algorithmic discrimination in the context of employment, education, financial services, government services, healthcare, housing, insurance, or legal services. The CAIA drew national attention for being the first comprehensive, state-level framework in the United States that legislates high-risk AI systems.
