With 25 million passengers in 2024–2025, it is the seventeenth-busiest railway station in Britain and the busiest in Scotland, as well as the third-busiest station in the UK outside of London, behind Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly. The station is protected as a category A listed building.
