The New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, colloquially known as "Bountygate", refers to the illegal program in which the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL) placed bounties on opposing players. If a targeted player was knocked out of a game, a bonus would be paid to the defensive player that made the hit. A slush fund for paying the bounties was found to have operated from the 2009 season to the 2011–12 playoffs.
