Toronto is the most populous city in Canada and the capital city of the Canadian province of Ontario. With a population of 2,794,356 in 2021, the city is the fourth-most populous city in North America, after Mexico City, New York City, and Los Angeles. Toronto is the anchor of the Golden Horseshoe, an urban agglomeration surrounding the western end of Lake Ontario with an estimated population of 11,198,136 in 2025. As of 2025, the Toronto census metropolitan area had an estimated population of 7,106,379.
